More than floods, it is more about Kashmir for Pakistan at UN

Pakistan PM Shehbaz Sharif and Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto are touring New York to participate in the high-level 77th session of the U.N. General Assembly as well as hold bilateral meetings with other countries. No, India is not of them. From the day they arrived in New York and participated in high-level talks with their counterparts, More than speaking about the floods, they have raised their so-called concerns about "human rights violations in Kashmir".

FM Bhutto who addressed the 12th Ministerial Meeting of Group of Friends of Mediation, said, “Over the last 7 decades, India obstructed the efforts of the UN mechanisms to implement the UNSC Resolutions on Jammu and Kashmir”. He also urged the Secretary-General "to avail the full panoply of mediatory measures available to him under Article 99 of the UN Charter to persuade India to reverse its unilateral measures and agree to promote an equitable solution to the Jammu and Kashmir dispute in accordance with Security Council resolutions and the UN Charter".

When MoS for Foreign Affairs Hina Rabbani Khar met Victoria Nuland, Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs of the US highlighted "the deteriorating situation of the human rights in India". She spoke of "how it was affecting the plight of the Kashmiris in the Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) and emphasized the centrality of the resolution of the Jammu and Kashmir dispute for the regional peace and stability."
Even during the bilateral meeting with Denmark counterpart, Bhutto "drew attention to the serious human rights violations in IIOJK".
It does not stop here. A special meeting was held of the Foreign Ministers of the OIC Contact Group on Jammu and Kashmir met on the sidelines of UNGA. In a press statement, it said, "Denouncing India’s illegal and unilateral actions of 5 August 2010 and subsequent steps which are in direct violation of UNSC resolutions and are aimed at changing the demographic structure of IIOJK, preventing the realization of the inalienable right to self- determination of the Kashmiris as well as violating their civil, political, economic, social and cultural rights and to perpetuate India’s illegal occupation of the occupied Jammu and Kashmir."

They also discussed the special summary revision of electoral rolls being held for the first time after the abrogation of Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir. "Rejecting the issuance of fake domicile certificates to non-Kashmiris granting them the voting rights, and amendments in land ownership laws, and any other step to alter the existing demographic structure of the disputed territory, which are in contravention of the existing UNSC resolutions and in violation of the international humanitarian law including the 4th Geneva Convention," it said.

"Denouncing the sham trial and conviction of Mr. Yasin Malik on concocted charges which is the most recent example of India’s attempts to punish Kashmiri leaders seeking freedom even by peaceful means. Paying rich tribute to the unflinching commitment of the Hurriyat leadership, including the late Syed Ali Geelani to the Kashmir cause in the face of persistent persecution and tremendous personal hardships," it further added.
