Today, social media has been bombarded with words trending like Xi Jinping, Beijing, and Military Coup. Twitter has been discussing "Has Chinese President Xi Jinping under house arrest?" with several videos of the People's Liberation Army going viral.
This came after Chinese netizens claimed that Beijing is under military seizure and 60% of flights were cancelled in China.
According to discussion on Twitter, PLA military vehicles were seen heading to Beijing on September 22 after Chinese Coummunist Party leaders removed Xi Jinping as the head of PLA. Jennifer Zeng, said, "Starting from Huanlai County near Beijing & ending in Zhangjiakou City, Hebei Province, entire procession as long as 80 KM. Meanwhile, rumor has it that #XiJinping was under arrest after #CCP seniors removed him as head of PLA"
When checking websites such as the Global Times for any news relating to Xi, no such news could be found. On international websites such as CNN and BBC, no such news. Had Xi been put under house arrest it would have been international news. Hence for now we can confirm that the news about Xi Jinping being placed under house arrest is premature and exaggerated.
