Massive crackdown on fake news! Govt blocks 45 YouTube videos, including one of Dhruv Rathee

Taking action against Youtube videos that were causing a threat to sovereign integrity, the central government blocked 45 Youtube videos, including one video by notorious YouTuber Dhruv Rathee.

As per the government of India, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting took this action against the 45 videos from 10 channels, under the IT Rules 2021. For unreserved, the IT rule 2021, empowers the Central government to take action against digital content that is causing harm to India's national security, foreign relations, and public order.
 
 
The decision was taken on September 23 based on input from intelligence agencies. The blocked videos had a cumulative viewership of over 1 crore 30 lakh. YouTuber Dhruv Rathee's video titled "Why Imran Khan lost? Political crisis in Pakistan," is among those blocked.
 
As per the media reports, Rathi in his blocked video used a distorted map of India, which is considered a punishable offense as per the law of the nation. The said video was uploaded by Dhruv Rathi on 11 April 2022 and it claimed to explain why Imran Khan lost power in Pakistan.
 
Rathi is known to be a pro-AAP commentator. He has a history of spreading misinformation and propaganda through his videos.
 
Hours after the government action, some social media users pointed out that Youtube has blocked all other videos, however, it didn't take down Dhruv Rathi's controversial video. Social media started raising questions over the reason behind Youtube's soft corner towards Rathee.
 
Following the outrage, Youtube finally swang into the action and blocked his video from being viewed by Indian audiences.
