The top court judges led by CJI Lalit last Tuesday decided to commence live streaming of court proceedings before the five-judge constitution benches. At a full court meeting, the judges were unanimous that the live streaming of hearings in important matters before the constitution benches could be commenced on priority basis, as the first step towards implementation of the top court’s 2018 judgment.

In August, the Supreme Court live streamed its proceedings for the first time since its inception. The historic move came on the day when the ceremonial bench of the top court gave farewell to CJI Lalit’s predecessor NV Ramana.

Earlier, the Centre had said that video recording and live streaming of judicial proceedings can be started on a trial basis in constitutional matters being heard by the Chief Justice of India's court.

Attorney General KK Venugopal had suggested that the process can be adopted in other courtrooms depending on the success of the pilot project.
