Today is Teacher’s day. A day to celebrate the bond between teachers and students. This day is celebrated as the birth anniversary of our 2nd president of India, Sarvapalli Dr. Radhakrishnan. And on this day we remember so many great teachers who brought up so many great human beings as they were their students. Today we will talk about those 6 Teacher and Student pairs which taught us the real meaning of life, and how a teacher molds their student into a great human being.

A teacher or a mentor is not someone who just teaches you the subject knowledge, a teacher is someone, who is always there for you to give you the right path in life. Who does not only share knowledge but also teaches you how to gain and retain knowledge by yourself. Who gives you life lessons not just college lessons? These are the 6 pairs who teach us the major life lessons. Let’s look at them:

1. Ramkrishna Paramhans and Swami Vivekanand: Ramkrishna Paramhans met Narendra (Swami Vivekananda) in 1881 at his place, where Narendra sang a song, which impressed Ramkrishna Paramhans. And then he invited him to visit Dakshineshwar. This one meeting is said to be a turning point in Swami Vivekananda’s life. Ramkrishna Paramhans molded the personality of Narendra and made him “Swami Vivekananda” who served his life for humanity. Who became the preacher of Hindu Dharma. In his famous speech at Chicago in 1893, he said, “I am proud to belong to a religion which has taught the world both tolerance and universal acceptance. We believe not only in universal toleration, but we accept all religions as true.”

2. Chanakya and Chandragupta Maurya: Chanakya fondly known as Kautilya or Vishnugupta was a Philosopher, Guide, and India’s first economist. Under his guidance, Chandragupta Maurya not only became the wisest warrior and a great and kind king. His kingdom included nearly half of the Indian subcontinent. Chanakya's words of wisdom are often quoted even today. Chankyaneeti is the path of life that one should lead to. In which it is told bluntly what is right and what is wrong. We can learn so much from Chanakya Neeti and it is relevant in today’s time as well.

3. Dronacharya and Arjun: Dronacharya was a great guru who taught everything especially “Dhanurvidya” to all the Pandavas, Kauravas, and Jayadrath. But in all of them, it is said that Arjun was his favorite. As he was the true shishya who followed everything taught by his guru. His famous story is, about when Dronacharya was teaching Dhanurvidya to Pandavas. He asked everyone what are they seeing. They all gave various answers while only Arjun said, he is seeing the Fish’s eye. His supreme goal. And that made him Dronacharya’s favorite student. Their bond teaches us a lot.

4. Dronacharya and Eklavya: Whenever we talk about Dronacharya and Arjun we can’t leave one name, which is Eklavya. It is said that because Eklavya wasn’t a “Rajputra” (Son of a king) he couldn’t take the training from Dronacharya, however, he always wanted to be his disciple. And that’s why he placed a clay model of Guru Dronacharya and practiced his “Dhanurvidya” and became better than Arjun. As Arjun was Dronacharya’s favorite Shishya he did not want anyone else to cross him so he asked a special Guru Dakshina from Eklavya which was his Thumb so that he won’t be able to practice Archery anymore. This may not be a perfect example of A teacher and a student, but it is a perfect example of “Gurubhakti” and only because of the faith and respect for a teacher, did Eklavya become the best archer in the world.

5. Ramakant Achrekar and Sachin Tendulkar: This will be the modern-day example of a great Teacher and Student. Whenever we talk about Indian cricket one name will always be there in our hearts and it will always be on the top of the list, that name is “Sachin Tendulkar”. Who made Sachin Tendulkar the best Cricketer in Indian Cricket history? It was his coach Mr. Ramakant Achrekar. "Achrekar sir taught us the virtues of playing straight and living straight. Thank you for making us a part of your life and enriching us with your coaching manual. Well played Sir and may you coach more wherever you are," Tendulkar had said after his guru died. This Jodi is the best example of not just teaching about the subject matter but teaching about the entire life altogether.

6. Saroj Khan and Madhuri Dixit: Madhuri Dixit is famous as Dhak Dhak girl and who made her that? Her teacher, her masterji Saroj Khan. Saroj Khan said once that she did not even have to explain the expression to Madhuri, this understanding was natural between them. And Madhuri learned a lot from Saroj Khan and became the best dancer in Bollywood. This was a teacher-student Jodi, which taught us a lot.

These 6 pairs are from different eras and different areas. However, they all teach us a lot about life in different ways. Did you like this blog? If yes, let us know in the comments below.
