Madurai MP Su Venkatesan, who shared the invitation on Twitter, said that there were differences between the invitation sent last year and now. The Communist leader further added that the Tamil Nadu emblem is avoided in this year’s invite from Raj Bhavan as it carries the phrase Tamil Nadu.

This just came days after he walked out of the assembly when chief minister MK Stalin moved a resolution against the deviation from the government’s draft for the address

Last week he suggested Tamil Nadu should be renamed Tamizhagam and triggering a sharp response from the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK). It should be noted that Tamilagam was the ancient way of addressing the state meaning the land of Tamil people. It has been common to use the word ‘Tamizhagam’, especially when discussing matters pertaining to the state, such as when referring to the chief minister as ‘Tamizhaga Muthalvar’ (Muthalvar means CM).

Meanwhile, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) justified the suggestion, saying the landmass of the state has been referred to as both Tamizhagam and Tamil Nadu in Tamil literature.
