Paris, Jan 12: Several people were injured in a knife attack on Wednesday (Jan 11) at the Paris Gare du Nord train station. The attacker identified as Mohamed Amine M was caught on camera screaming 'Allahu Akbar' while attacking people. However, the particular fact that he is a Muslim was neglected by mainstream media.

Regarding the incident, French rail operator Societe Nationale des Chemins de fer Francais (SNCF) tweeted that the police opened fire on a 'dangerous person', who injured travellers at one of Paris' central railway station. Police confirmed that several people were wounded in the attack. Interior Minister Gerard Darmanin confirmed the attack, saying that the suspect was 'neutralized' by the police, reported DW News.

"The traffic is disrupted at the departure and arrival (areas) of Paris Nord. The police seem to have opened fire against a dangerous person who injured travellers at Gare du Nord," SNCF tweeted. Emergency services intervened and the attacker was shot dead, the SNCF tweeted, adding that while a security perimeter has been established but the station continues to operate normally.

French Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin said the man had attacked several people, including a police officer, with what looked like a "bladed weapon" at around 6.43 am local time. Police had earlier said the man used a knife or blade. Within a minute, off-duty police officers returning home from a night shift shot the attacker three times. He said the unnamed assailant was between life and death in hospital.

Darmanin further said that one officer was stabbed in the back but was saved by a bulletproof vest. The minister thanked the police "for their effective and courageous reaction". The Paris prosecutor said a criminal investigation has been opened.

According to the reports of sky news, the attacker was shot several times by officers and taken to hospital with serious injuries, a police spokesperson said. The news also quoted the force saying that his motivations were not immediately clear.

Authorities did not state how many people were wounded, but French broadcaster BFM TV quoted the figure at 6. The attack took place at the Gare du Nord station, a busy hub for commuters. The incident has caused major delays in the movement of trains, according to the live departure board of SNCF, the state-owned railway company.

Although the primary reports didn't mention the name of the attacker as it would make his identity clearer, videos of the attack surfaced social media soon after the incident took place in Paris. The attacker can be seen screaming 'Allahu Akbar' while attacking the victims, which strongly hints about the motive behind the crime. In fact, later the attacker was identified as Mohamed Amine M, an Algerian Muslim immigrant.

However, in the most recent reports it is also known that th attacker was a 22 year old Libyan with multile identities, who had escaped prison and was under 'Obligation to leave France' (OQTF).

These facts about the attacker were some how sabotaged by both the govt as well as the media, terming the attacker as 'unnamed assailant' and the purpose of his attack, despite of him screaming 'Allahu Akbar', as 'unclear motive'.
