Kerala: NIA takes Mohammed Sadique into custody in connection with PFI case

Earlier, on December 31, the NIA had arrested a practising lawyer of the Kerala High Court in connection with a case registered by the central agency suo motu against members of the banned organisation, Popular Front of India (PFI), in September this year.

Kollam, January 17: While continuing its crackdown against the banned radical Islamist organisation, Popular Front of India, the National Investigating Agency has taken one person from Kerala’s Kollam into their custody. The person has been identified as Mohammed Sadique, who is a native of Kerala.

As per the reports, the NIA has taken action against him for having a connection with the banned radical Islamist organisation. He has earlier been to PFI meetings and programs. NIA has also got his travel documents.
 
It should be reminded that NIA had conducted multiple raids in the Kollam district, Kerala. The NIA had also sought assistance from the Chavara police for the raids in the district.

On 28 September 2022, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) banned the PFI and its associate organisations for having alleged links to terror funding. On September 22 and September 27, the National Investigation Agency (NIA), Enforcement Directorate (ED) and state police conducted raids on the PFI.
 

In the first round of raids, 106 people belonging to PFI were arrested. Meanwhile, in the second round of raids, 247 people belonging to PFI were arrested/detained. Investigating agencies got enough evidence against the outfit, based on which the decision to ban the outfit was taken.
