Two more killed in separate Jallikattu events in Tamil Nadu, eyewitness blames lack of security arrangements

New Delhi, January 18: Two more people were killed and scores were injured in separate Jallikattu events in Tamil Nadu on Wednesday. An eyewitness blamed the lack of security arrangements at Kulithalai as nearly 60 people were also injured in that event.

According to reports, 21-year-old Sivakumar was mauled by a bull and he later succumbed to his injuries. He was a bull tamer and was participating in a Jallikattu conducted at RT Malai area in Kulithalai in the Karur district.
 
Sivakumar was immediately rushed to Tiruchirapalli GH after getting critically injured while taking part in the event yesterday. He did not respond to the treatment given to him and succumbed to his injuries early this morning.
 

Another 50-year-old spectator was also gored to death by bulls during a Manjuvirattu event held at K Rayavaram near Pudukkottai in Tamil Nadu. Ganesan, a resident Sivaganga district, had come to see Manjuvarattu as spectator.
 
 

Manjuvirattu (not Jallikattu) was held in an unorganised manner, said sources. In Manjuvarattu the bulls are released at free will of the owners. There was lack of security arrangements was the cause of this accident.
 

It may be noted that several bull-taming festivals of Jallikattu are being held across Tamil Nadu during the period from January 15 to 18 with several people injuring themselves and some getting injured while trying to tame the bulls.
 

The Jallikattu events spread across Tamil Nadu is a major festival with people trying to tame bulls and the bulls moving away from the bull-tamers. The first prize winner is given a car while other participants are given certificates and two-wheelers.
