'Not familiar but...': US backs India on BBC documentary on PM Modi, hails 'shared values'

Washington DC, January 24: The United States has backed India after BBC documentary on Prime Minister Narendra Modi sparked massive outrage in the country and drew widespread condemnation on 'biased coverage'.

When asked about the documentary, US State Department spokesperson Ned Price hailed the shared values "that enact the United States and India as two thriving and vibrant democracies."
 
Addressing a press briefing on Monday (local time), Price said that political, economic and exceptionally deep people-to-people ties are some of the elements that bolster the US' global strategic partnership with India.
 
 
 
"I'm not familiar with the documentary you're referring to. I am very familiar with the shared values that enact the United States and India as two thriving, vibrant democracies. When we have concerns about actions that are taken in India, we've voiced those we've had an occasion to do that," he said.
 
 
He also called India's democracy a vibrant one, he hailed the diplomatic ties that US and India share with each other. Price also stressed that the two countries share exceptionally deep partnership and that both nations share the values that are common to American democracy and to Indian democracy.
