Over the years, the Republic Day parade has evolved. The theme of this year's Republic Day is to showcase more of India’s Atmanirbahr Bharat initiatives, increasing the prowess of women in the Army, Navy and Air Force and letting go of the VVIP culture in the Delhi Celebrations.

People’s Parade

1. In a first, the 2023 Republic day parade will be open to 1,000 special invitees. Workers of the Central Vista project and their family members, maintenance workers of Kartavya Path, vegetable vendors, milk booth workers, grocery shopkeepers, and rickshaw-pullers will be part of the "special invitees".

2. For the first time, all official invites for the ceremony event will be sent online. For this, the government has put 32,000 tickets online for the masses

3. This is the first Republic Day celebration after Rajpath was renamed to Kartavya Path last year.

Atithi Devo Bhava

4. This is the first time the Egyptian Army forces marched in the Republic Day parade enhancing India-Egypt longstanding relationship with Egyptian president Abdel Fattah El-Sisi being the chief guest of the 74th Republic Day celebration. This is also the first time that an Egyptian leader has been invited as the chief guest of Republic Day.

5. In a first, Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) – BSF, CRPF, CISF, SSB, ITBP and Assam Rifles – will have a common tableau this year. Komalpreet Kaur, Assistant Commandant, CRPF, is the team leader of this first all-women tableau with 12 commandos.

6. Lieutenant Chetana Sharma will be leading the Made in India Akash surface-to-air missile system at the RepublicDay parade 2023.

7. For the first time in the country, the Rajasthan Frontier of Border Security Force (BSF), has prepared the world's first camel-mounted women's squad will participate in the 2023 Republic Day parade.

8. Scripting history, Squadron leader Sindhu Reddy will be leading the Indian Air Force's marching contingent.

9. Another feature of this year's Republic Day is a team of "Daredevils" Motor Cycle Riders from the Corps of Signals co-led by a woman officer who will be part of the parade.

MADE IN INDIA

10. Indian Army to showcase only 'Made in India' weapons during parade ceremony. The indigenously made weapon systems include, MBT Arjun, Nag anti-tank guided missiles, K-9 Vajra howitzers, Akash air defence missiles, BrahMos supersonic cruise missiles, the Quick Reaction Fighting Vehicles.
 
 
11. The ceremonial 21 Gun Salute was done through Indian made 105 mm Indian Field Guns (IFGs). The Indian Army has said that the ammunition used is also Made in India. The vintage artillery with 25-pounder guns, which traditionally fired the thundering ceremonial 21-Gun Salute during the Republic Day celebrations, were replaced by 105 mm Indian field guns, as the government makes a further push for its Make-in-India initiative.
 
 
12. The IL-38 plane of the Indian Air Force will take part in the Republic Day parade for the first and perhaps the last time. Formations of the flag, Rudra, eagle, Tiranga, Garuda, Bhima, Amrit, and Vijay among others will be made in fly-past.

13. 20 contingents of women Self-Help-Groups (SHGs) associated with the National Rural Livelihood Mission (NRLM) would be participating in the Republic Day parade for the FIRST TIME since the inception of the mission in Jammu and Kashmir in the year 2014

14. IAF's elite Garud commando will be part of marching contingent at Kartavya Path on #RepublicDay 2023.

15. More than 2,150 cadets including over 700 girls to take part in this year’s Republic Day NCC camp. Cadets from 19 friendly countries to participate in the NCC Republic Day Camp 2023 as part of youth exchange program.
