"Bharat" used in place of "India" in Railway Ministry's proposal to Union Cabinet

New Delhi, Oct 28: In a significant development, the word "India" was replaced with "Bharat" in a railway ministry proposal to the Union Cabinet, the government’s highest decision-making body.

 

 

 

This is perhaps the first such proposal for the Cabinet that has used only “Bharat” in place of India in every aspect whether the logistics cost, modal share of cargo and country’s economy.

 

 

 

Reports suggest that the usage of Bharat is going to be more in government documents in the coming days. They added that India and Bharat have been used interchangeably in the Constitution and there is nothing wrong in using this in Cabinet proposals.

 

This Bharat controversy erupted after an invitation for a G20 dinner was sent out by President Droupadi Murmu in her capacity as “President of Bharat” instead of “President of India”. This triggered a controversy with a section of opposition parties objecting to this. The government cold-shouldered the objections of the opposition parties.
