New Delhi, Mar 21: The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has recommended a CBI inquiry against Aman Biradari, an NGO established by activist Harsh Mander, for violation of the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act.
The move by MHA comes two years after the Economic Offence Wing of the Delhi Police had filed a case under sections 406, 409, 420, and 120B of the Indian Penal Code against Mander's other non-profit organistions for Equity Studies (CES) and its officials where Mander is the director. The complaint was filed for a criminal breach of trust.
According to the official website of Aman Biradari of Harsh Mander, the NGO is a people's campaign for a secular, peaceful, just, and humane world.
"It aspires to build local level institutions mainly of youth and women, of diverse faith, caste and gender, at village and district levels to strengthen mutual bonds of tolerance, fraternity, respect and peace between people of different religious groups, caste and language groups, to promote equal citizenship, justice, communal harmony, peace, and the celebration of our social and cultural diversity," reads the official website.
Harsh Mander, who has also been called a Congress sympathiser, was one of the most prominent faces in the protests against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) in Delhi. He worked closely with Sonia Gandhi from 2010 to 2012 in the National Advisory Committee, and has also been considered "the most powerful club in the Manmohan Singh government".
