Bengaluru, March 25: The Congress on Saturday announced its first list of 124 candidates for the Karnataka assembly election 2023. Former chief minister Siddaramaiah and Congress state unit President D K Shivakumar are among the prominent leaders who figure in the first list of candidates for the assembly polls, due by May.
While S Siddaramaiah will be contesting from his home turf Varuna constituency, Pradesh Congress Committee chief DK Shivakumar will contest the polls from his Kanakapura Assembly segment.
It may be noted that Congress' list of candidates for Karnataka elections 2023 mentions the list of many candidates belonging to the same families. The BJP is expected to corner the Congress by taking dynasty jibe at the principle Opposition party.
Meanwhile, eight Muslim candidates have been given poll tickets by the Congress. Tanveer Sait, who had announced not to contest Karnataka election, will now contest from Mysuru's Narasimharaja constituency.
The Congress has fielded former deputy chief minister G Parameshwara from the Koratagere (SC) constituency. Former ministers KH Muniappa and Priyank Kharge will try their luck from from Devanahalli and Chitapur (SC) Assembly segments respectively. Notably, Priyank is the son of Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge.
