Before surrendering, the Waris Punjab De Chief addressed a gathering at a gurudwara in Rode village of Moga district, the birthplace of Khalistani terrorist Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale. Last year in September, Amritpal Singh’s ‘dastarbandi’ was done at this Gurudwara.

"Today at this holy place, the birthplace of Sant Giani Jarnail Singh Khalsa Bhindranwale, the same place where I had my Dastaarbandi and we started this work for the Kaum."

Calling the present situation as "important juncture in life,", he claimed the there have been atrocities against the Sikh community by the government since he was on a run and he might be a criminal in the eyes of the law of the land, but he was innocent in the court of God.

"Over the past month, the atrocities the state has heaped on the Sikhs, it is all very clear. If it was about my arrest, there were many ways to arrest me, and I would have cooperated. But the face of the state, which needed to be exposed in front of the world, has now happened with the atrocities heaped on Sikh youth."

In Satguru Sache Patshah’s court, I am not guilty. In the worldly courts, I may be held guilty.

He announced that he will surrender in front of the police for the "false cases put against him". "So after one month, I have decided that I have struggled on this land, and I will continue to struggle on this land, and I will not leave it to escape anywhere. All these false cases that have been put against me - I will face them in Court," he claimed.

"Today from this same place, I have decided to court arrest myself. This arrest is not an end. It is a beginning."

He further claimed to continue “Khalsa Vahir”, the movement that he started under the banner of ‘Waris Punjab De’. He claimed the cases were filed against him because he was taking the state’s youth away from drugs. He urged his followers to get baptized and keep arms. "become Amritdhari and Shastardhari and live your life in that way," he said.

Amritpal Singh was arrested from Gurdwara Janam Asthan Sant Khalsa of Rode village in Moga, the native village of slain militant Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale. Amritpal had been on the run since March 18, when Punjab Police launched a major crackdown on members of his ‘Waris Punjab De’ outfit.

Soon after his arrest, Punjab Police urged people across the state to maintain peace and not share fake news. “#AmritpalSingh arrested in Moga, Punjab. Further details will be shared by #PunjabPolice. Urge citizens to maintain peace and harmony. Don’t share any fake news, always verify and share,” it said in a tweet.

The fugitive pro-Khalistan preacher is facing at least six cases now even as Punjab Police have invoked the stringent National Security Act (NSA) against him. The cases have been registered in Amritsar Rural and Jalandhar Rural police districts. His aides and supporters also face multiple cases.
