Aurangabad, April 06: The police in the Thane district of Maharashtra Tuesday booked an Aurangabad-based rapper, Raj Mungase, for his alleged defamatory song against the BJP-Eknath Shinde Sena government.
The 1.08-minute rap video is a satire and mainly revolves around allegations of how MLAs were bought for 50 khokas (crores), how they were taken to Surat, Goa, and Guwahati and ultimately how the MVA government was toppled and a new one was formed by the alliance of Shiv Sena’s Eknath Shinde and the BJP.
The video was first uploaded on social media on March 25 by Mungase, who is a resident of Aurangabad, which has been renamed Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar.
The First Information Report (FIR) was filed based on the complaint lodged by Snehal Kamble, a member of the Yuva Sena Core Committee. In her complaint, Kamble has alleged the video is defaming the current Shiv Sena-BJP government. She also suspects that Mungase has the backing of Maha Vikas Aghadi leaders as the video has been shared by MVA leaders and workers on social media platforms.
The Shivaji Nagar police in Ambernath East have booked Mungase under Sections 501 (printing or engraving defamatory matter), 504 (intentional insult to provoke breach of peace), and 505(2) (statements creating or promoting enmity, hatred, or ill will between classes) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
An officer from the Shivaji Nagar police station said a team is working on the case and is trying to trace the accused rapper. “He would be summoned soon for questioning,” the officer said.
