Washington DC, May 18 :It is major win moment for India, as US court in California has consented to the Indian request, through the US Government, & approved the extradition of Mumbai 26/11 terror attack accused Pakistani-origin Canadian businessman Tahawwur Rana to New Delhi.

Judge Jacqueline Chooljian of US District Court in Central District of Los Angeles in the order dated May 16 said that based on the foregoing, the Court concludes that 62-year-old Rana is extraditable for the offences for which extradition has been requested and on which the United States is proceeding.
 
 
 
For unreserved, India's National Investigation Agency (NIA) is probing into his role in the 26/11 attacks carried out by Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorists in 2008. He was arrested in the US on an extradition request by India for his role in these attacks.
 
After latest development, the NIA has said that it is ready to initiate proceedings to bring him to India through diplomatic channels.

What Are The Accusations Against Rana?
  1. Tahawwur Rana is a Canadian businessman of Pakistani descent. He has been accused by the Indian government of participating in the planning and execution of the Lashkar terrorist attacks in Mumbai by collaborating with his childhood buddy David Coleman Headley, also known as "Daood Gilani," and others.

  2. As per reports, he allowed Headley to open a branch of his immigration law business in Mumbai based out of Chicago. The aim was to provide Headley with a cover story. He also traveled to Denmark as a representative of the company.

  3. Rana was also accused of allowing Headley to pose as a representative of his firm in order to gain access to newspaper offices by feigning interest in purchasing advertising space. Headley, who is serving a 35-year jail term in the US for his role in the attacks, testified against Rana in 2011.

  4. The NIA has accused Rana of the following offences (a) conspiracy to wage war, to commit murder, to commit forgery for the purpose of cheating, to use as genuine a forged document or electronic record, and to commit a terrorist act (b) waging war, (d) murder, (e) committing a terrorist act and (f) conspiracy to commit a terrorist act.

  5. Rana was convicted in Chicago in 2011 of providing material support to the Pakistan-based terror group Lashkar-e-Taiba, which planned the Mumbai terror attack and for supporting a never-carried-out plot to attack a Danish newspaper that printed cartoons of the Prophet Muhammed in 2005.

  6. A total of 166 people, including six Americans, were killed in the 2008 Mumbai terror attacksin which 10 Pakistani terrorists laid a more than 60-hour siege, attacking and killing people at iconic and vital locations of Mumbai.
