In a significant development, the Maharashtra Police arrested Arbaaz Khan who was the architect of the violence that erupted by a Muslim mob in Akola. He is a second-year VFX animation student and was booked for inciting the violence which lead to the death of one person and left many injured.

What happened in Akola?

 
Notably, riots were unleashed in Akola on May 15 following an Instagram post that included derogatory remarks about Prophet Mohammad. Stone pelting, violence, and arson took place in which one person died and eight others were injured. Police took control of the streets and section 144 of the CrPC was imposed in the town.
 

What did the investigation reveal?

 
Investigation revealed that Khan’s controversial post had gone viral on Instagram, which is said to be the root cause of the communal clash in which over 150 people were arrested. The police have also accused Arbaaz of circulating his post and illegally gathering a crowd at Ramdas Peth police station which led to a sensitive situation.

Why Arbaaz Khan wanted a communal clash?

A person named Sameer Sonawane had created an Instagram page regarding the recently released movie ‘The Kerala Story’. Accused Arbaaz Khan saw the Instagram page and got furious for merely supported the movie. Arbaaz got into chat with the page admin.
 
The chat turned into arguement in which both of them used filthy and offensive language. However when the chat was over, Arbaaz Khan edited the chat and made only a selective chat viral. Further, he incited Muslim mob through social media saying how derogatory remarks were passed towards the Muslim community and their religion.
 
 

What happened after the chat went viral?

 
After inciting the Muslim mob, they reached gathered at the police station. He not only provoked them but insisted for violence in the region. At the police station, Sar Tan Se Juda slogans were also raised.
 
 
Following the arson and vandalism, the police registered an FIR against as many as 150 miscreants. The attack left one dead and several injured. The dead person was identified as 40-year-old electrician, Vilas Gaikwad, a resident of Hariharpeth in Akola.
