The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Sunday (21 May) arrested Dinesh Gope, alias Kuldeep Yadav, a self-styled leader of the banned Maoist outfit People’s Liberation Front of India (PLFI). Notably, the PLFI is a militant Maoist outfit and also a splinter group of the Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) formed in 2007 in Jharkhand.

Dinesh Gope alias Kuldeep Yadav alias Badku, a resident of Khunti district in Jharkhand, was earlier chargesheeted by the NIA in the case relating to the recovery of demonetized currency of Rs 25.38 lakh from the operatives of PLFI.

2.More than 102 criminal cases are registered against Gope in Jharkhand, Bihar and Odisha, and most of these cases relate to murders, abductions, threats, extortion, and raising funds for the PLFI to terrorize businessmen, contractors and the public at large.

3.Dinesh Gope had been absconding for almost two decades who been taking shelter at different places while making all efforts to re-establish the PLFI's stronghold in Jharkhand

4.Dinesh Gope used to destroy his mobile phones and sim cards after making calls to the "area commanders" of his outfit in Bihar, Odisha and Jharkhand. However, a call made by Gope from his personal number earlier this year helped security forces trace his Nepal location.

5.Dinesh Gope reportedly told officials during interrogation that his group extorted about ₹ 120 crore annually from them.

6.PLFI, previously known as Jharkhand Liberation Tigers (JLT), is responsible for hundreds of terror incidents in Jharkhand, including several murders.

7. The outfit used to lure unemployed youths by providing them motor bikes, mobile phones and easy money. After imparting training, the outfit used to equip them with lethal weapons to carry out terror incidents.
