UP: Pregnant Hindu woman raped, poisoned to death for refusing to convert to Islam by live-in partner Naved; 2 arrested

Agra, May 29: A 24-year-old pregnant Hindu woman from Uttar Pradesh's Kheri district was raped and poisoned to death by by her live-in partner and one other person in Shahjahanpur after she "refused to convert to Islam". She was trapped in a love affair after the accused Mohd Naved had presented himself as a Hindu.

This came after woman breathed her last in the hospital after being admitted following which both the men fled. The victim was brought to a hospital in Lakhimpur Kheri by the two accused where she breathed her last. The woman's brother has alleged that she was poisoned. The two accused - Naved and Farhan - had fled the hospital after her death and were later arrested.
 
The victim, employed at a local hospital, was three-months pregnant. According to reports, the victim was in a relationship with the accused, Mohd Naved, who had presented himself as a Hindu. The woman was admitted to district hospital in Shahjahanpur in a critical condition on Saturday night by Naved and his friend Farhad Khan. Naved told the hospital staff "she was his wife Zoya Siddiqui".
 
 
The hospital staff, however, found their activities suspicious as they both tried to flee after coming to know the woman had died. Both were caught. It was found they had entered incorrect details in hospital records. Subsequently, police were informed.
 
Superintendent of Police S Anand told PTI that Gautam, a resident of Lakhimpur Kheri, was in a live-in relationship with Naved. The couple was staying at a rented accommodation in Roza area of the district.
 
Following interrogation, police said the couple was living together for the last one-and-a-half years and the woman was pregnant. The accused were exerting pressure on her to change her religion.
 
Based on the complaint lodged by the brother of the woman, a case was registered against Naved, Mustaquim and Farhan under sections of the Indian Penal Code, Schedule Caste/Schedule Tribe Act and Uttar Pradesh Prohibition of Unlawful Conversion of Religion Act. Police said Naved and Farhan are in jail while Mustaquim is missing.
