The Kerala Story is continuing to create a buzz across India which was released on May 5. With several celebrities supporting and some governments already banning the movie. Now, some celebrities have come out against the ban-seekers and called for support for the movie.

The Kerala Story

1.Shabana Azmi, a veteran actress, recently expressed her support for the divisive film ‘The Kerala Story’, which has been accused of inciting religious division and propagandizing against the state but comapred it with Laal Singh Chaadha. "Those who speak of banning #TheKeralaStory are as wrong as those who wanted to ban Aamir Khan’s #Laal Singh Chaadha. Nobody has the ability to become an additional constitutional authority once a picture has been certified by the Central Board of Film Certification," she tweeted.

2.Anupam Kher told ANI, "They are the same faces who are opposing such films and they can be seen everywhere. Be it CAA protest or Shaheen Bagh protest or JNU protest. They were the same faces who criticised 'The Kashmir Files'. I don't know their motive and neither believe in paying attention towards them. In fact, they have become redundant. Again I would say they are the same faces. I have not seen the film but I am happy that people are making films which are close to reality. And those who feel it is a propaganda are free to make movies dealing with the subject they find perfect. No one is stopping them."

Filmmaker Ashoke Pandit condemned the ban of "The Kerala Story" movie by the West Bengal government. This comes a day after the Mamata Banerjee government banned the film 'The Kerala Story' citing "maintenance of peace" and to avoid incidents of "hatred and violence" in the state. Reacting sharply to the ban of the film, Pandit who is also the president of the Indian Film and Television Directors' Association told ANI, "I condemn the banning of the film The Kerala Story by the West Bengal government. It's a big attack on the freedom of expression of a filmmaker. It is sending the wrong signal to the entire country."

4.Veteran actress Khushbu, who spoke against the ban of the movie in Bengal, tweeted, "Wonder what scares those who are fighting to ban #TheKeralaStory . The blatantly told truth or the fear of realising of being part of the truth, unknowingly & silently for years. Let people decide what they want to watch. You cannot decide for others. TN govt gives lame reasons."

5.
Kannada actor and activist Chetan Kumar Ahimsa tweeted then, "SC refuses to stop ‘The Kerala Story’ on ‘propaganda’ grounds. Good. Any film w/ a politicised theme can be regarded as ‘propaganda’. Congress & others trying to ban movie must introspect. Wasn’t Attenborough’s ‘Gandhi’ (1982)—funded by INC & Indira Gandhi— epitome of propaganda?"

Kangana Ranaut, in an interview, said, “See, I have not watched the film, but a lot of effort has gone into trying to ban it. I read it today; correct me if I am wrong, High Court has said that the film cannot be banned. I think it’s not showing anybody in a bad light except ISIS, right? If the HC, the country’s most responsible body, is saying this, they are right. ISIS is a terrorist organisation. If you think ISIS is not a terrorist outfit despite its declaration then you are also a terrorist)"

The Kerala Story has made over Rs 37 crore at the Indian box office since its release on May 5. The film is being touted as a hit as it will recover its cost (Rs 40 crore) in the first week itself.

In ‘The Kerala Story’, actress Adah Sharma plays the role of Fathima Ba, a Hindu Malayali nurse, who is among the 32,000 women who went missing from Kerala and were then recruited to the ISIS (Islamic State of Iraq and Syria) after being forced to convert to Islam. Also, the film highlights 'Love Jihad' propaganda, where Muslim men manipulate Hindu girls to convert to Islam and abandon their families.
