There they go yet again, DMK, staunch followers of "Periyar and his thoughts", targeting the core philosophy of Sanatana Dharma. This time it is, Uma Ilakkiya, a Tamil journalist and anchor, who made derogatory remarks about Prabhu Shri Ram.

While spewing venom against the Hindus at the event, Deputy General Secretary of the Dravidar Kazhagam Thamizhar Peravai (Dravida Kazhagam’s Tamil Council, referred to Shri Ram as a womaniser, adding that he had a relationship with 1000s of women. She accused Shri Ram of being a murderer. She goes further to abuse Bhagwan Shri Ram saying he was a coward.

Uma continued her tirade against Bhagwan Rama and said, “As per Valmiki Ramayanam, Rama was said to have lived with several thousands of women in the palace, making merry with drinks. Are you going to give him as an example for your children? He had no courage to live so he committed suicide by drowning in the Sarayu river with his people.Are you going to bring up your children with him as an example? What kind of foolishness is this? He doubted his wife and sent her to the forest, what will you show as an example of this Ram? He was a murderer – he killed Vaali by hiding himself, and he beheaded Sambhukan when he was meditating without even enquiring the reason, is this kind of a person an idol for your children? This BJP-RSS is taking the country to such a bad state. They are not going to stop with this, they have started in Mathura already – wherever there is a mosque, they are establishing that there was a temple before that.”

It should be noted that Uma Ilakkiya is an anchor with DMK's mouthpiece Kalaignar Seithigal. She is a close aide of MK Stalin. Karunanidhi's wife MK Dayalu owns 60% in Kalaignar TV, the new company formed to launch the proposed channel, his daughter and Rajya Sabha member Kanimozhi owns 20%. The channel owned by M. Karunanidhi's family.

It should be noted, that this is not the first time that DMK has passed derogatory remarks about Prabhu Shri Ram. Earlier, the MK Stalin-led Tamil Nadu government had banned the LIVE telecast of the Ayodhya Ram Mandir consecration. Apart from that, the Tamil Nadu government had asked State temples against doing special pooja on the occasion of the Ram Mandir Pran Prathistha.
 
Besides, former Rajya Sabha MP and DMK spokesperson TKS Elangovan made contentious remarks about the Hindu deity Bhagwan Ram. He stated that Bhagwan Ram's birth was a mere myth and a story from the Ramayana, categorising it as literature rather than history.

In April 2023, the Supreme Court directed all States/UTs to register suo motu FIR against hate speeches irrespective of religion. Now, as per that direction, it will be interesting to watch whatever, DMK govt in Tamil Nadu or SC will take action against her.
