“It is not acceptable to implement any law like the Indian Citizenship Amendment Act 2019 (CAA) in an environment where all citizens of the country live with social harmony,” a rough translation of his statement, which was released in Tamil, said.

This is Thalapathy Vijay's first political opinion since he floated the party.

What is state government's stand?

In a social media post, MK Stalin said the BJP government's "divisive agenda" has weaponised the Citizenship Act, turning it from a “beacon of humanity” to a “tool of discrimination” based on religion and race. It “betrayed” Muslims and Sri Lankan Tamils and thus, sowed “seeds of division”, he further said.

Now lets understand the act

First of all the law does not deprive anyone of citizenship nor does it grant citizenship to anyone. It merely modifies the category of people who can apply (for citizenship).

It does this by exempting the applicants from the definition of “illegal migrant" – any person who belongs to the Hindu, Sikh, Buddhist, Jain, Parsi or Christian community and is from Afghanistan, Bangladesh or Pakistan, who has entered India on or before the 31st day of December, 2014, and who has been exempted by the Central Government or the Foreigners Act, under clause (c) of sub-section (2) of section 3 of the Passport (Entry into India) Act, 1920, or the provisions of 1946 or under any rule.

In simple words

In effect, this notification exempts only those Hindus, Sikhs, Buddhists, Jains, Parsis or Christians, from Afghanistan, Bangladesh or Pakistan, who have come to India before December 31, 2014, due to fear of religious persecution.

This is a law to grant citizenship, CAA will not take away the citizenship of any Indian citizen, no matter which religion he belongs to.

Why Muslims are not included in this bill?

Muslims are NOT Minorities in these countries. Afghanistan, Bangladesh or Pakistan are Muslim countries. The official religion there is Islam, whereas some Muslims flee and come to India. They come here after fleeing the conditions of oppression and tyranny in their countries. India sees no sense in neutralising them from a policy perspective.
This law is only for those people who have suffered oppression for years and who have no other place in the world except India. The Constitution of India gives us the right to treat religious refugees from a humanitarian point of view. They should get fundamental rights and such refugees can be provided citizenship.

CAA is to provide reasonable life & RIGHT TO LIVE to those for whom Life is worst than Death in Pakistan, Bangladesh & Afghanistan and NOT as perceived by Leftists & Opposition as to take away anyone's citizenship in Bharat.
