Newsbharati has dug into the story behind the viral trend, let us have a look into it-

In the last few days, there has been an online campaign on the social media platform X showing India in negative light pointing out the social and civic issues including poverty, public hygiene practices, fraud, etc. However, social media users criticised X for its perceived "biased algorithm" that seemingly favours videos portraying India and Indians negatively, making the videos trend easily. Currently, the phrase is ranking on top with almost 381k tweets. \

Unfortunately, what is more concerning is that these videos, despite being labelled "Indian", are not actually of the country.

In yet another strategy, Indian users shared pictures and videos of similar incidents which took place in other countries with the caption 'what's wrong with India'. The aim was to prove that X's algorithm was promoting such posts which had the phrase 'what's wrong with India' and shared anti-India content. Some of these posts, shared by users who had less than 300 followers, got over one lakh impressions. The ratio of comments and likes was also staggering. This raised huge concern among Indian social media users.

There was also a section of users who purposely used the caption What's wrong with India to show how "developed" their own countries are.

It is pertinent to mention that such trends are taking place ahead of the upcoming Lok Sabha Elections 2024.
Soon after the Indian netizens trolled the anti-Indian trollers, the government's citizen engagement portal MyGovIndia also jumped into the trend but with a twist! It pointed out that India’s achievement in eradicating ‘extreme poverty’, being the first country to successfully land on the moon’s south pole region, receiving accolades from the IMF chief for being the fastest growing economy, and other nations emulating India’s advancements in digital infrastructure.
