The developments in the past one decade have helped to strengthen Hinduness from within. At the same time, it has also contributed positively to curb attacks from outside on Hindus. Abrogation of Article 370 and 35 (A), introduction of CAA and NRC, Ram temple in Ayodhya, UCC in Uttarakhand, triple talaq, acts in various states about love jihad, renovation of various religious places like Ujjain, and Kanshi, encouragement to religious tourism and series of steps to establish Hindu values are some of examples, which can be cited in this connection. Government’s zero tolerance policy on terrorism is the extension of the same policy. Strict action against anti-national organizations like PFI can be described as a part of the same policy.

Hindu solidarity

On January 22 this year, workers of political parties, except Communists of all the factions, were seen celebrating Pran Pratishtha of Prabhu Ramchandra in Ayodhya. While all political parties, including Congress, have officially decided to stay away from Ayodhya celebrations, their workers at ground level, did not dare to dishonour public sentiments and organized or participated in various celebrations. In other words, ground level workers of almost all political parties did not follow the official party line for two reasons. Firstly, these workers were really happy with the Pran Pratishtha ceremony. Secondly, they fear that disrespecting high public sentiments would lead them into serious political trouble. This could happen as Hindus all over the country have awakened at political and social level.

Signs of Hindu awakening have been experienced for the past three decades but Hindu awakening has reached its peak since past one decade. The current regime has reinforced and bolstered Hindu unity. This unity is not merely reflected in the political behaviour of the people but also manifested in social behaviour, which is probably more important. The greatest sign of Hindu unity was experienced on January 22 this year at the time of Ayodhya celebrations. Ayodhya temple stands as the biggest victory of Hindu unity in the recent past. Hindu unity would not have been possible unless Hindus have brushed aside caste sensitivities. Entire country was virtually immersed in Ram Bhakti as some political commentators were tempted to describe it as `Ramtva’. Some anti-Hindu elements had feared that the Ayodhya issue would create communal tension in the country. However, no untoward incident was reported.

Three major developments, related to Ayodhya Ram temple, took place in the past few years. Firstly, the Supreme Court announced its decision to construct a temple in Ayodhya. Secondly, when `shilanyas’ of the temple took place and thirdly, Pran Pratishtha took place but all of them passed off peacefully.

The most significant factor which is concerned with Hindu unity, is diminishing influence of caste factor in elections. Caste factor used to play a decisive role in elections as politicians never wanted Hindu unity. Political parties, which survived because of caste factors, have lost their relevance. For example, SP (Socialist Party), BSP (Mayawati), RJD (Lalu Yadav) and NCP (Sharad Pawar) are struggling for their survival. Political blackmailing by these caste based political parties has stopped completely.

In absence of caste factor, a new factor has emerged in the recent past. This factor is now known as `beneficiary class’, which is far away from caste sensitivities. The origin of the beneficiary class can be found in effective execution of welfare schemes, meant for socially and economically weaker people. Deprived people have now realized that caste factor would not help for their upliftment and they have to support the party, which worked for them. Various pre-poll surveys failed to understand this strong undercurrent. Their calculations were based on traditional caste angle but voters preferred to think beyond caste and voted for performing party and candidates. This is a major achievement in the past decade, when people have learnt to look beyond caste and think for the nation. This process has helped to strengthen Hindu unity, where caste factors took secondary position. Policies and programmes of the current government is evidence of its inclusiveness, where citizens are not looked upon as vote bank but are treated as honourable citizens of this country. This has resulted in social harmony among Hindu brethren. Secular parties are making several attempts to divide Hindus along the caste line. Caste survey is one of the issues, which has been raised by these parties. But the latest election results show that people have not entertained this demand as they have learnt to think beyond caste.

We have seen a period when people used to be shamed to call themselves as Hindu. We have now entered into an era, when people call themselves as Hindu with utter pride. Humiliation of Hindus is no more tolerated. Number of Hindus, who ridicule themselves, has turned into a microscopic minority. This sense of pride is not restricted to India but has extended beyond Indian boundaries. Indians are seen with respect all over the world thanks to robust policies of the government. Temple in Abu Dhabi is the latest example where Hindu philosophy has gained acceptance at international level. Ayurveda and Yoga, which originated in Hindu philosophy have also been recognised internationally thanks to the current government. We have a Sanskrit saying – `Raja Kalsya Karanam’. Current regime is an ideal example of this saying. The current government has not merely shaped the present but has also laid the foundation for a bright future for Hindu awakening.
