Pune, Mar 27: In a recent development, the Archaeology department of the Maharashtra government has made a remarkable discovery during an ongoing excavation at the Sakaleswara temple premises near Ambajogai in Beed district. Two temple bases dating back to 1228 AD, constructed by the Yadava dynasty, have been uncovered, astonishing both locals and experts.
The excavation, which commenced on March 15, involved the creation of 14 trenches spanning 100 square feet each. Among the findings are the foundations of two temples, one identified as Kholeshwar, named after a Yadava general, according to Amot Gote, Assistant Director of State Archaeology. Fragments of bricks indicating the presence of towering spires atop these temples, along with sculptural elements such as hands and feet, have also been unearthed.
The discovery holds immense significance as it sheds light on the rich cultural and architectural heritage of the region.
