MS Dhoni, who is all set to return to the mega cricket league - Indian Premier League, has left everyone by surprise as the Chennai Super Kings captain made a very rare appearance on social media on Monday to hint at a 'new role' in 'new season'. Fans were quick to speculate that he might be referring to taking up a new responsibility in the upcoming 2024 IPL which begins later this month.

Dhoni, 42, is likely to play his final season this year after he promised a return to the tournament following a triumphant season in 2023. While everyone expected to see Dhoni return as captain, fans have speculated that he might be donning a new role in the new season due to his latest Facebook post.

In the FB post, he said, "Can't wait for the new season and the new 'role'. Stay tuned!"

This post has sent the cricketing world into a frenzy because Dhoni has generally stayed away from social media, usually sticking to putting out sponsored posts or advertisements. Interestingly, he has shared this news only on his Facebook profile. If anybody is following Dhoni, you will see his Facebook feed being filled with promotional advertisements.

And with celebrities using "unusual" ways to promote a product, service or say "awareness", this FB post by Dhoni is likely to be another advertising gimmick.

There is also speculation that the post could end up being another advertising gimmick, not too dissimilar to what Harsha Bhogle and Kapil Dev have attempted recently.

There has been a lot of debate and queries about Dhoni’s future in the IPL after the former India skipper underwent knee surgery last June. Dhoni, aged 42, led Chennai Super Kings to their fifth IPL title in 2023, following which he revealed his plans, saying that while it would be easier on his body if he retired, the adulation he received could force him to return in 2024 as a CSK captain if his fitness permitted. Dhoni last played for India in the semi-final of the 2019 World Cup.
