“There are no jobs “, is the biggest myth. There are good jobs yet there is a mismatch between what an employer wants and what an employee can deliver. Almost seventy lac graduates pass out every year in India including 15 lac engineers. Almost all studies say that only 25% are employable- and that is true. But does someone tell you why 75% are unemployable and more importantly what should be done to make them employable? The answer is a BIG NO.

The idea of this book is to bridge this gap- to tell you what needs to be done. The author has interviewed more than 10,000 graduates aspiring to join an MBA course at Symbiosis University groomed around 3000 MBA students and made them employable. This book is absolutely practical and hands down- no jargon, no pie charts, no tables.
To start with you get a hundred questions to set your benchmark by assessing where you stand. Thereafter each chapter tells you like a coach what you need to do to improve. The author has seen toppers failing to get a job placement and average guys landing up a good job- so learn from the Guru himself.

The challenge is to make ordinary guys perform extraordinarily and ‘The Soft Skills Handbook’ has been designed for that- making ordinary graduates into extraordinary performers. This is not rocket science but you need to listen to what the author tells you and take a pledge that you will turn around yourself and make your life much better. One should start this much earlier while you are in class 9,10,11 or 12. That me be a better idea, but even if you have reached college this can be easily used. Any time is a good time to start.

Getting your first job is similar to an aspiring actor looking for a role in a film. He may start with an OTT serial with a small role but if he/she delivers well in the first performance, doors open in a big way. Job market is similar. Great actors like Amitabh Bachchan and even Shatrughan Sinha started small- and reached great heights. Even the master director like Subhash Ghai who made Madhuri Dixit’s career started only with a salary of seven hundred rupees.

You may get a job which may not be an exact fit for you- as far as you think. Getting the job is the first hurdle and the most critical one. This book will get you there. More important is to retain that job and the next step is to become a ‘star performer’- first amongst equals in your company. You should be so good that the boss will never like to leave you or let you resign- and that is the ball game the author wants to teach you through this seminal work.

How do you do it?

You have to do it yourself- this is a book that will teach you how to reassemble yourself!

Heard of DIY kits? These are ‘Do It Yourself’ kits which give you step-by-step instructions to assemble a kit that is given to you in a knocked-down condition- it could be a bed from IKEA a radio or a dining table. You follow the instructions given in the DIY Handbook and you can assemble it yourself- anything. The definition of DIY is ‘designed for construction or use by amateurs without special training.’

The Soft Skills Handbook is your DIY manual and if you can read simple English and do what you are told to do seriously- you will come out as a star performer this is guaranteed by the author.

But all that has to be done by you and you alone.

"A lot of people never use their initiative because no one told them to." is Banksy's quote
