MP: Muslim mob attacks Hindu e-rickshaw driver for playing religious song; stones and bottles pelted, vehicles damaged

Sagar, April 1: In a shocking development, a radical mob attacked a Hindu e-rickshaw driver and his friend playing religious songs on the night of Rang Panchami in Sagar City, Madhya Pradesh. The attack led to a clash between two communities, and police had to use tear gas shells to disperse the crowd.

What happened?


As a Hindu e-rickshaw driver and his friend played a religious song in the 12 Muhaal area of Sadar under Cantt Police Station, a radical Islamist mob stopped them and urged to not play it. However, the mob attacked them while people several Hindus rushed to stop the clash.

Tensions escalate when one of the Hindus who came to rescue was assaulted with a sharp weapon. Stones were pelted, vehicles were damaged, etc.


Teargas used to control situation


Police reached at the location and tried to control the situation. The police used teargas shells to disperse the crowd. The police registered three FIRs and a process was on to identify those involved in the incident, Cantt police station in-charge Ravindra Singh Chouhan. They have arrested 15 persons in this matter.

“There was an immediate reason behind the incident. A person was driving an auto-rickshaw and he was beaten up by a crowd following a dispute. Later, persons from another group also gathered which led to the stone-pelting incident,” he said.

BJP and Hindu activists demand action


Local Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders and Hindu activists reached the police station, demanding strict action against the attackers. They demanded bulldozer action against those who attacked the e-rikshaw driver and his friend.

Local BJP MLA Pradeep Laria, who reached the spot after the incident. “It was a pre-planned incident. It is a matter of police investigation how bottles and stones were stored inside houses (in the clash-affected area). A person, named Saurabh, was attacked by a group of 250-300 persons when he was in his house and he was injured. Some others were also injured in the attack with stones and bottles,” he saod.

Following the incident, the administration imposed Section 144 in the area. Police have imposed a ban on any gathering in the area.
