In an attempt to attack the foundation of democratic values of Bharat, a students’ group with communist ideological belonging, promoted NOTA in Pune's renowned Gokhle Institute, with what can be termed as a resemblance of the 'JNU-pattern'. The NOTA banner put up in the campus by the group was aimed at achieving collapse of ‘Democracy’ in the country.

The incident took place in Pune’s reputed Gokhle Institute which is tuf of the Communist where they misused the logo of Election Commission and Institute to promote the NOTA while suggesting that democracy is dysfunctional in Bharat.

Over the past few days, posters urging voters to choose NOTA have been prominently displayed in the Academy building at Gokhale Institute.

As per the photo of the banner that has been going viral on social media, the banner bore logos of GIPE, the Election Commission of India (ECI), and the Government of India with the word 'Democracy' struck and promoting 'NOTA (None of the above) alongside 'Inquilab Zindabad' in the Devanagari script.

This incident came to light after the author Shefali Vaidya and Legal Rights Observatory brought the incident to social media.

Author Shefali Vaidya took to X (formerly Twitter) and asked, "Is GIPE the new JNU?" "There is a banner in the corridor that features the official logos of Gokhale Institute as well as the Election Commission & Govt of India. The banner promotes #NOTA and suggests that democracy is dysfunctional in Bharat. This is a clear violation of the code of conduct and a blatant misuse of institute logos," she wrote.

"Request @PuneCityPolice and @ECISVEEP to conduct an inquiry and take action against the culprits who are misusing logos of constitutional bodies to create misconceptions to further leftist propaganda! #SaveDemocracy," she added.

It should be noted that the Election Commission ties up with the several institutes to aware the young generation about the voting and election ahead of the Lok Sabha election 2024. They give several templates which are intended to aware the students. However, the students’ group with communist ideological belonging misused those templets to promote ‘NOTA’ to propagate their leftist agenda.

According to reports, the banners have been on display for the past two to three days, raising questions about the Institute's stance on political neutrality and adherence to electoral regulations

The Election Commission has issued notices regarding these banners, condemning their content as contrary to democratic principles and the nation's interests. Despite the notices, no action has been taken by the administration to remove the banners or address the issue.

ABVP To Protest Over 'NOTA' Banner

Anil Thombre, State Minister, ABVP, deemed the banner "anti-national" and "anti-democracy". He criticised the administration for not taking action despite the poster being displayed for several days. Thombre stated, "The ABVP is going to hold a strong agitation if action is not taken against those behind this. At the same time, we will complain to the ECI and file a complaint with the police."
