Kaziranga National Park Thrives as Tourist Magnet, Sets New Footfall Record of 3,27,493 tourists

Guwahati, April 4: Officials have reported a remarkable surge in tourist visits to Kaziranga National Park and Tiger Reserve (KNPTR) this year. Renowned for its stunning landscapes and diverse wildlife, including the iconic one-horned rhinoceros, Kaziranga has solidified its position as a preferred destination for families and wildlife enthusiasts alike.

This year marked a milestone with the highest number of visitors ever recorded in the park's history. In the 2023-24 season, Kaziranga welcomed a total of 3,27,493 tourists, comprising 3,13,574 domestic visitors and 13,919 international travelers. KNPTR, comprising the Eastern Assam Wildlife Division, the Bishwanath Wildlife Division, and the Nagaon Wildlife Division, collectively experienced a surge in tourism, showcasing the growing popularity of unconventional tourist attractions.
 
 
 
 
Key highlights of the tourism season, which commenced post-monsoon in mid-October 2023, included the Jungle Safari and Elephant Safari options. Additionally, the introduction of cycling trails in Karbi-Anglong, trekking routes in the Panbari forest range and Chirang, enhanced the visitor experience.
 
 
 
 
 
Ethnic restaurants such as Choran-Ahem (Karbi) and Ajun Ukum (Mising), led by community representatives, have garnered attention, along with the modest beginnings of Bwisag-Na (Bodo), a women-led restaurant at Burachapori. Furthermore, new routes for boat safaris, dolphin watching, and jeep and cycling safari circuits in Panpur and Burachapori have been operationalized, enriching the tourism offerings.
 
 
 
 
Comparing visitor statistics, the 2023-24 season witnessed a notable increase in footfall across all three divisions: Eastern Assam Wildlife Division, Nagaon Wildlife Division, and Bishwanath Wildlife Division. Correspondingly, revenue generation saw a significant boost, with the Eastern Assam Wildlife Division leading with Rs 8,59,48,351, followed by the Bishwanath Wildlife Division with Rs 16,11,810, and the Nagaon Wildlife Division with Rs 6,24,000 in earnings.
