The left liberals were the ‘jhola hanging- kurta clad- stubble on the chin- intellect in your face types’ people with great ideas- so they think they are the custodians of intellect.

liberalism

They also feel that- weird look matters. At least they think you may not agree with them. A word ‘albeit a derogatory expression,’ is Liberals are called Librandus has been coined for them- it may not mean much but it sounds good. No? They feel they are the chosen ones and are totally ‘liberated’. Like ‘budhdha’. Nirvana, moksh without even knowing what it is. A long, long time ago, around the late sixties or seventies, there was a hippy culture- I care a damn for everyone and anyone was the central thread.

‘The trouble with our Liberal friends is not that they're ignorant; it's just that they know so much that isn't so.’
Ronald Reagan

Hippie culture was a 1960s counterculture movement originating in the U.S. and spreading globally, characterized by its rejection of conventional values, embrace of peace and love. Key aspects included advocacy for nonviolence, sexual liberation, the use of psychedelic drugs to expand ‘consciousness’. The movement influenced fashion with its long hair and colourful, weird clothing, and expressed itself through folk and psychedelic music.

These guys appeared to be weird to the rest of the world but they had some- however silly- line of thinking. Idea was to project a sub class differently.

Apolitical is another term to be on a different pedestal.

You want to be different- seemingly more open than anyone else- more accommodating.

You open a newspaper, a magazine, a whats app, a twitter- they all spew politics. These smell politics, speak politics, breath politics and portray politics. News on TV or radio is full of politics, national or geopolitical.
Standup comedy thrives and survives on politics- if they cross a line the become hyper political, they get into trouble.

In UP and central India even a barber, riksha driver, ola driver, a massage or malishwala, a paan wala appears to be Master of political Science. A waiter in a restaurant, a lift man, a valet is highly politically charged- may not be informed. Yet he can discuss any political party, its history, its manifesto, its credibility. He may not have a degree but he is self-tutored. No; he is a political scientist, a political technologist and a political artist. But may vote for the wrong party- that is different. But he can argue it out and even win the argument as to why he was right in his support to the party he voted for.

Even the so called educated indulge, and have to indulge in politics. Every one- most- vote. Whether we like it or not, it impacts every part of our life, our very existence. Our work, business, taxation, fines, levy’s, electricity, water, travel, cess, recess, progress and even dress is impacted by politics.

Therefore, can you survive without politics? The answer is NO.

‘What I used to say to people, when I was much more engage myself, is that you can't be apolitical. It will come and get you. It's not that you shouldn't be neutral. It's that you won't be able to stay neutral.’ - Christopher Hitchens

There are some people who say ‘I am apolitical’. I do not understand what it really means?

If you don't care who is the PM or who is your ruling government, don't belong to a party, and don't care about political issues, you're apolitical: uninterested in politics. Or ‘If you're apolitical, you're either politically neutral or don't care about politics at all.’

But as a citizen whose life revolves around policies, pressures, approvals, taxes et al can you cut off from politics? It is all around you. It may be good to take a moral high ground to distance yourself from ‘politics’ as it is a dirty word today- thought that way at least. If liberals are Librandus then apoliticals are apoliticandus?

Armed forces are apolitical

The Indian military belongs to the nation and not any political entity, and any action that besmirches this standing will be deleterious to their professional prowess.

The constitutional stand is clear. India’s armed forces owe their loyalty to the Constitution of India that is symbolised in the President, who is the Commander-in-Chief.

Uniformed fraternity therefore is ‘supposed’ to be apolitical. They take an oath to be loyal to the government that rules the country or in presidential form of government to the president of the country. Your allegiance is to the seat of power and not a political party.

Most people who are posted every three years to different stations are unable to vote. Therefore, a sizeable chunk of active 13 lakh Army personnel in India cannot vote at the place of their posting.

The broader reason is -

‘Politics is a taboo in the army, air force and navy is to ensure the military remains an apolitical, professional force, separate from civilian political structures and ideologies. This separation prevents the military from being used for partisan gain, maintains its credibility and effectiveness, and avoids compromising the loyalty and unity of its personnel, who come from diverse political backgrounds. It helps preserve the army's discipline, preventing it from being divided by political conflicts and ensuring it can serve the nation impartially’.

That way Pollice, Judiciary and even media should remain apolitical- but is that true?

Apolitical for life?

Most people while being in uniform are not to discuss politics in the cantonments especially in the officers or any other mess or any congregation. In the armed forces everything is treated like a drill/parade.

They get primed for life and find it difficult (some of them) to get out of that shell where they were cocooned for decades- they refuse to think differently that now they are free. ‘slave’ mindset may be too harsh an expression but one thing sure some guys are permanently brainwashed.in fact most do it to be different as they feel they are taking a high moral ground.
