Washington DC, Sept 25 : Members of the Tibetan community staged a protest in Washington, DC, as US President Donald Trump hosted Chinese President Xi Jinping at the White House on Thursday. The protesters raised slogans including “We want China out of Tibet” and demanded that the Tibet issue be raised with the Chinese government.
The Tibetan protest added another dimension to the high-profile meeting, with demonstrators seeking international attention to the Tibet issue and urging it to be addressed in discussions with the Chinese government.

The protesters called for greater attention to the situation in Tibet and urged the US administration to discuss the issue with Chinese authorities and seek a solution.
The demonstration took place as Trump and Xi held talks aimed at discussing the future of US-China relations. The meeting attracted attention amid several longstanding differences between Washington and Beijing, including economic and trade issues.
Trump accorded Xi a formal welcome at the White House, including military honours and a flyover by fighter jets. At a state dinner, Trump said that the US and China had “never gotten along better” and expressed confidence that both countries could continue working towards a relationship focused on prosperity and security.

“Americans and Chinese have always exchanged goods, knowledge, customs, and ideas,” Trump said, stressing the importance of continued engagement between the two countries.
Xi, meanwhile, described US-China relations as being at another “historical juncture” following what he called sincere and in-depth exchanges with Trump.
According to a statement released by China’s Foreign Ministry, the two leaders agreed to work towards building a constructive China-US relationship based on strategic stability.
The Chinese Foreign Ministry said the discussions also covered recent economic and trade consultations between the two countries.

The two leaders also discussed artificial intelligence. According to the Chinese Foreign Ministry, Xi said both sides could continue dialogue on AI, exchange views on its risks and benefits, and work together to prevent its misuse and abuse.
