The air at Bengaluru’s Freedom Park was thick with the manufactured outrage of the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) on Thursday (Oct 8) and an opportunistic opposition, all rallying aggressively against the Election Commission’s Special Intensive Revision (SIR). But among the local leaders and seasonal agitators stood a face whose presence should alarm every stakeholder in Indian democracy. Dhruv Rathee. Instead, the media chose to use him as a bait to raise their TRPs.

Digital content creators have masqueraded as "neutral arbiters" of truth, utilizing overseas safety to direct narratives within India. However, crossing from behind a laptop screen in Germany directly into physical, domestic street agitations marks a dangerous escalation. The CJP and its allies are gladly using his massive online reach to legitimize their anti-government stance, but they conveniently ignore a foundational contradiction, and also do the people: on what legal grounds does an individual with ambiguous sovereign ties dictate terms to India's constitutional bodies?

The critical fault line in this alliance has been completely exposed by a wave of official demands and public scrutiny tracking the YouTuber’s domestic activities. Legal petitions filed directly with the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) are now forcing the exact questions the opposition desperately wants to avoid. Formal complaints spearheaded by former top law enforcement officials, including a former Bengaluru Police Commissioner, demand an immediate, thorough probe into his citizenship, immigration clearance, and visa compliance.
Indian democracy belongs strictly to Indian voters. A foreign national, or someone who has forfeited their voting eligibility, has absolutely no business interfering with the sacrosanct process of electoral roll revision. By allowing an influencer with unverified legal standing to anchor their political platform, the CJP and opposition leaders have shown they value foreign intervention over domestic sovereignty. Citizens, too, need to question why an outsider is being imported to trigger chaos against our democratic institutions.
