New Delhi , October 12: The Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC) has filed a complaint with Delhi Police against Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convenor Arvind Kejriwal, party MLAs and workers, alleging disruption at Gurdwara Sri Bangla Sahib and circulation of misleading videos on social media.
In its complaint dated October 11 and addressed to the Commissioner of Police, the DSGMC alleged that AAP workers and supporters entered the gurdwara premises in a coordinated manner, staged a protest and created chaos. The committee further claimed that political slogans were raised inside the religious complex, hurting the religious sentiments of the Sikh community and violating the sanctity of the place.
DSGMC president Harmeet Singh Kalka alleged that AAP MLAs and party functionaries circulated videos and social media posts presenting a distorted version of the incident. He also accused Kejriwal of publicly supporting and amplifying this narrative.
The committee expressed apprehension that the disruption and circulation of selective videos could have been part of a coordinated attempt to create controversy, malign the gurdwara management and gain political mileage. Describing Bangla Sahib as one of India's most revered Sikh religious institutions, it maintained that the premises should not be used for political protests or propaganda.
The DSGMC has urged the police to identify the individuals seen in the videos, determine who organised and directed their entry into the premises, preserve relevant evidence and initiate legal action against those found responsible.
Earlier, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann strongly condemned the alleged police action at Bangla Sahib. He claimed that Delhi Police personnel forcibly entered the gurdwara while dealing with protesting youth, describing their conduct as disrespectful to the religious institution.
Mann said that gurdwaras have traditionally provided shelter to those in need and criticised the alleged entry of police personnel wearing boots and without covering their heads.
Responding to Mann's remarks, Kalka said the conduct of police personnel was a separate matter. However, he alleged that protesters had been provoked and brought into the gurdwara premises. According to him, the protesters took out pamphlets, placards and banners from their bags and began raising slogans after gathering inside.
The allegations from both sides have brought the incident at Bangla Sahib into focus, with the DSGMC seeking a police investigation into the alleged disruption and circulation of videos.
