New Delhi, October 13 : A controversy has erupted following the Opposition’s protest against the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise near the Supreme Court premises in New Delhi on Monday, October 12. Allegations have surfaced against Congress MP Rahul Gandhi over an alleged incident involving a woman journalist, who has reportedly been admitted to a hospital. The Congress has denied the allegations, dismissing them as BJP propaganda.

Speaking from her hospital bed, journalist  said she was waiting near a gate on the Supreme Court premises to obtain a soundbite from Rahul Gandhi. She said she initially moved her microphone away after he gestured for her to do so but brought it forward again when other journalists began extending their microphones.

According to journalist, Gandhi then grabbed her hand and pulled her forcefully before his security personnel pushed her away. She claimed she fell on the steps near the entrance, with her knees and stomach hitting the hard surface. She further alleged that her cameraperson was pushed and fell on top of her, followed by four to five other people amid the chaos.

Journalist said her phone was shattered and her microphone receiver was dislodged during the incident. She maintained that a video recorded by her cameraperson captured the incident and said her voice could be heard in the footage.

"This is not about Congress or BJP. I am just a common citizen doing my job. Very unfortunate some of the things people are saying," she said, expressing distress over comments questioning her account.

Congress leader Alka Lamba disputed journalistaccount in a post on X, questioning the timeline of the incident and her subsequent hospital visit. Lamba also questioned the reported X-ray examination, citing the journalist's pregnancy. Congress leaders and supporters shared videos of the protest, arguing that the footage did not clearly establish that Gandhi had pushed or grabbed her.

BJP spokesperson Pradeep Bhandari, who visited journalist at the hospital with other party leaders, criticised the Congress and accused its workers of questioning the journalist instead of helping her.

The incident occurred during an INDIA bloc protest seeking the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over the SIR exercise. After the protest concluded on Monday evening, Rahul Gandhi described the demonstration as "a powerful demonstration that the people of India will not be intimidated."

The episode has triggered a fresh political confrontation between the BJP and Congress, with both sides presenting contrasting accounts of the incident.
