New Delhi, Oct 19: Muhammad Sarwar , a top-tier mastermind of terror outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and a prized henchman of India’s most wanted terrorist Hafiz Saeed, has met a mysterious but disgraceful end. The U.S.-designated global terrorist died on Sunday (Oct 18) after mysteriously tumbling down the stairs at his safe haven in Lahore, Pakistan.

The deadly fall

While the terror outfit's political front, the Pakistan Markazi Muslim League (PMML), tried to cover up the incident by claiming he collapsed while walking to a mosque, independent Pakistani media confirmed he died from massive head trauma after a fatal fall down a staircase. Fittingly, the man who funded networks to bleed India took his final breaths not in glory, but in a domestic accident, with his funeral held at the notorious JuD headquarters, Jamia Al-Qadsia.

Lifelong enemy of India

Sarwar was the financial spine of LeT and its Lahore emir. Working hand-in-glove with Hafiz Saeed and Hafiz Abdul Rahman Makki, Sarwar orchestrated the dirty money pipelines that funded jihadist operations against Indian civilians and security forces. His expertise lay in manipulating legitimate commercial channels to launder money for terror. This earned him a Specially Designated Global Terrorist (SDGT) tag from the U.S. Treasury in 2016. In a shameless display of Pakistan's institutional backing of terror, Sarwar was recently operating openly as the Punjab provincial president of the PMML to mainstream LeT's operations under a political garb.

Why his death is a victory for India

• The Sinister Money Trail Snapped: Sarwar was the architect of LeT's economic warfare. His sudden death shatters the sophisticated hawala and commercial funding pipelines that fueled infiltration bids and localized terror modules targeting Jammu & Kashmir and the Indian heartland.

• A Fatal Blow to Hafiz Saeed’s Inner Circle: Coming at a time when Pakistan-based terror handlers are facing an unprecedented, mysterious wave of attrition, the elimination of a founding member severely cripples Hafiz Saeed's remaining operational command and control.
