Harwinder Kumar alias Sonu was deported from the UAE to India on October 1 following diplomatic efforts. He was arrested by the NIA after arriving at the Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi and was later produced before the Special NIA Court for further legal proceedings.

According to the NIA, Kumar was allegedly involved in providing logistical support and financing to those involved in the killing while operating from the UAE. Investigators have also alleged that his role extended to recruiting and handling operatives involved in the conspiracy.

The case relates to the killing of Vikas Prabhakar in Punjab's Roopnagar district on April 13, 2024. The NIA registered the case in May 2024 and has so far filed three chargesheets in the matter.

The latest arrest comes weeks after the agency took another UAE-based accused, Manveer Ram, into custody at Amritsar Airport on August 13. Ram was allegedly involved in supplying weapons used in the killing.

The NIA investigation has alleged that the conspiracy was hatched by Germany-based BKI operatives Harjit Singh alias Laddi and Kulbeer Singh alias Sidhu.

Investigators have further alleged that Kumar played a key role in executing the conspiracy from the UAE. He was also allegedly involved in receiving and transferring terror funds on the directions of Laddi and Sidhu.
