New Delhi , Oct 21: The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) organised a Path Sanchalan (route march) at Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) as part of its Vijayadashami Utsav, drawing criticism from Congress and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leaders. RSS workers participated in the march in their traditional uniform, known as Ganvesh, and moved across the university campus. The event triggered a political exchange, with opposition leaders raising concerns over the RSS's presence at the institution.

The event drew criticism from Congress leader V. Hanumantha Rao and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MP Sanjay Singh, who raised concerns over the RSS programme and alleged that such activities could affect the campus environment.
Congress leader V. Hanumantha Rao alleged that the RSS's presence at JNU could lead to tensions and create law-and-order concerns. He also claimed that the organisation's ideology could affect students from different religious communities and disrupt the academic atmosphere.

Senior RSS functionary J Nandakumar , “Swayamsevaks from the Shakhas of JNU participated on the occasion of Vijayadashami Utsav. Swayamsevaks marched across the JNU campus from Chandrabhaga to Vedant Sthal.”
Ratan Sarda“JNU being slowly saffronised despite all Red efforts, including violence,” expressing support for the RSS's growing presence on the campus while criticising its ideological opponents.“This is a really very dangerous situation; a law and order problem will be there,” Rao said.

He further alleged that the RSS promotes a Hindu-centric ideology and expressed concern that its activities could lead to unrest among students and affect education on the campus.

AAP MP Sanjay Singh also commented on the march, alleging that such programmes take place when organisers receive protection and support from the government.

“Now, look, when the government provides protection, all kinds of programmes take place. So, they are also doing their own programme. They have the protection of the police and the government everywhere,” Singh said.
The RSS had also organised a Path Sanchalan at the JNU campus on October 22, 2023.

The latest event has brought the university into the political spotlight, with opposition leaders questioning the programme and raising concerns over the role of ideological organisations on educational campuses.
