The incidents include the alleged rape and exploitation of a nurse in Madhya Pradesh, gang rape cases involving two girls in Bihar during Durga Puja celebrations, and an alleged assault on a woman doctor at a primary health centre in Maharashtra. The cases have prompted police action and renewed demands for accountability and stronger security measures. Incidentally, accused in all the three cases belong to a particular community.
Madhya Pradesh: Man Arrested for Allegedly Raping and Extorting Nurse
In Madhya Pradesh's Shajapur, police arrested Mohammad Shakir, a resident of Barawad village in Ujjain district, in July 2026, for allegedly raping, threatening and extorting money from a Hindu nurse by using claims of occult rituals and black magic. His alleged accomplices remain absconding.
According to the complaint, the accused concealed his identity and introduced himself as 'Raju' before befriending the nurse. He allegedly claimed that he could resolve her family problems through occult rituals and used this pretext to gain access to her home.
The accused allegedly threatened the nurse when she refused to remove her clothes for a supposed ritual to prepare a tantrik dhaga (ritual thread). Fearing for her safety, she complied. He subsequently allegedly raped her by creating fear of black magic and forced her to wear a burqa before taking her to Hussain Tekri in Jaora and later to Ajmer.
According to the allegations, he also pressured her to convert her religion and raped her again. He threatened to circulate an objectionable video of her if she refused to engage in sexual relations with men known to him. On another occasion, he allegedly brought a man to her home, where both men raped her.
The accused also allegedly extorted more than Rs 4 lakh from the nurse by promising to help her acquire a bus. Police recovered Rs 3.48 lakh and seized a two-wheeler following his arrest.
The complaint further states that on July 21, the accused allegedly engaged in obscene acts with two of the nurse's colleagues. The women managed to escape and approached the police, reporting the incidents. Their complaints led to police action against the accused.
Bihar: Two Girls Gang-Raped in Separate Incidents During Durga Puja
In Bihar, two girls, including a minor, were allegedly gang-raped in separate incidents in Saran and Darbhanga districts during the Durga Puja period.
In the Saran district incident, a minor girl went to Isuapur market to purchase groceries on Tuesday evening at around 5 pm. While returning home, a group of youths allegedly intercepted her, dragged her into bushes away from the road and gang-raped her. One of the accused allegedly recorded the assault on video.
The girl reportedly regained consciousness and returned home later that night. Her father subsequently lodged a complaint at Isuapur police station. Following a technical investigation, a team constituted by Saran Senior Superintendent of Police Roshan Kumar arrested four accused on Wednesday. The survivor was sent for medical examination, and her statement was recorded before a magistrate.
In a separate incident in Darbhanga, an minor girl went with her mother to a Durga Puja fair at Shivnagar Ghat on October 19. Amid the crowd, she became separated from her mother.
The following morning, the girl called her mother from an unknown number and alleged that three youths on motorcycles had offered to take her home but instead took her to Neuri village, where they gang-raped her. The call was disconnected during the conversation.
The survivor later returned home. According to the police, the parents of one of the accused allegedly learned about the incident and sent her back in an autorickshaw.
Biraul police registered an FIR based on the complaint filed by the survivor's mother. One accused, identified as Parbind Sada, was arrested and sent to judicial custody. The survivor was sent to Darbhanga Medical College and Hospital for medical examination, while raids were underway to arrest the two other accused.
Maharashtra: Woman Doctor Slapped During Medical Examination
In another incident, a woman doctor, Dr. Shraddha Bhumre, was allegedly slapped by a man identified as Qadir Ali during a medical examination at a primary health centre in Wardha district, Maharashtra.
The incident has triggered anger among doctors, who are demanding strict security arrangements for medical professionals at healthcare facilities. Doctors have also threatened to shut outpatient department (OPD) services if their demands are not addressed.
The incident has once again brought attention to the safety of healthcare workers, particularly those serving in public health facilities.
The three cases, reported from different states and involving different circumstances, have drawn attention to the need for effective investigations, accountability and measures to ensure the safety of women and frontline professionals.
