The aircraft, developed by the Bengaluru-based company, is designed for autonomous combat operations and can be configured for intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR), strike missions and collaborative combat operations.

According to the company's statement, FWD Supreme belongs to the one-tonne class and is intended to make advanced combat aviation more affordable through indigenous design, AI-enabled systems and scalable manufacturing.

The aircraft is designed to achieve a maximum speed of Mach 0.8 in its first phase, with future upgrades aimed at enabling supersonic flight. It is expected to cruise at approximately 500–600 kmph, with a range exceeding 1,500 km, an endurance of more than two hours and a payload capacity of around 350 kg.

FWDA founder and CEO Suhas Tejaskanda said the project reflects the company's commitment to developing advanced defence capabilities through Indian design, engineering and manufacturing.

He also announced that FWD Supreme Lite, a scaled-down version of the aircraft, has completed taxi trials and is preparing for its maiden flight.

A. Anbarasu, Director General (Acquisition), attended the unveiling as the chief guest. He highlighted the importance of jointness, self-reliance and innovation in strengthening India's defence ecosystem.

He also emphasised collaboration among stakeholders and the role of the Make in India initiative in developing domestic defence capabilities.

Senior officials from the Indian Air Force and Army, including Air Marshal Prem Kumar and Lt General Puneet Ahuja, also attended the event.

FWDA has previously secured Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) type certification for an indigenous unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV). The company also developed the FWD-200B unmanned bomber, which completed its maiden flight on September 3, 2024.

The unveiling of FWD Supreme adds to India's growing efforts to develop autonomous military aircraft. However, the aircraft's operational capabilities will need to be established through flight testing and further technical validation.
