In a shocking development, two Mumbai-based muslim men have been arrested for trapping and sexually abusing girls from different communities. As per the reports police have recovered intimate videos involving around 30 women and personal details of more than 200 women. The case brings back uncomfortable memories of the 1992 Ajmer sex and blackmail scandal.

Jodhpur police have arrested two Mumbai-based men, Faizan Ahmed and Aamir Hussain, for allegedly luring women with fake work-from-home opportunities, collecting their private photographs and videos and later using the material to threaten and extort them. Police say their investigation has also indicated possible links with a suspected sex-racket network

The case becomes more serious because investigators reportedly recovered private videos and chat records involving around 30 women. Police also found work-from-home profiles and personal details including mobile numbers and email IDs of more than 200 women. The recovery does not mean all 200 women were victims. Investigators will have to establish how the information was obtained and how it was used.

The accused, Faizan and Aamir, told the police that they had created fake social media accounts using Hindu names such as Vaishnavi and Tanishka.

They posed as women and chatted with girls on Snapchat, Instagram and WhatsApp, luring them with promises of earning lakhs of rupees through work-from-home jobs.

According to police, the case began with a woman who approached a work-from-home opportunity advertised on Snapchat. After she responded, she was allegedly contacted and given online tasks such as liking and sharing social media reels.

The interaction allegedly progressed from a simple job offer to the collection of personal information, photographs and videos.

Police allege that the material was subsequently used to pressure the woman into nude video calls and then threaten her with public exposure. Money was allegedly demanded in exchange for keeping the material private. The investigation also contains a more serious allegation.

Police allege that one of the accused travelled from Mumbai to Jodhpur in December last year, met a woman at a hotel and raped her. The alleged blackmail and demands for money continued afterwards, according to the police account reported by The Times of India.

The accused worked at a cake shop in Mankhurd, along Mumbai’s Harbour Line. Faizan Ahmed and Aamir Hussain met there. Faizan is a graduate, while Aamir is literate.

When they had spare time at the bakery, they allegedly used fake profiles created in women’s names to target girls. The police also suspect that a woman may have been involved in the gang.
