Agartala , October 31: Director General of Assam Rifles, Lt Gen Vikas Lakhera, AVSM, SM, inaugurated the Dhurba Jyoti Dutta Centre of Excellence at Lokhra in Assam on October 30. The centre aims to support young people from the Northeast through quality education, competitive examination coaching and mentorship.
The newly established centre will provide academic guidance and structured coaching to students aspiring to pursue higher education, particularly in the medical and engineering fields. It seeks to help students prepare for national-level entrance examinations and improve their access to educational opportunities.
Currently, 80 students, including 20 boys and 60 girls, are receiving coaching at the centre. Of these, 73 students are preparing for the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET), while seven are preparing for the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE).
To ensure proper academic guidance and a supportive learning environment, the centre has a team of six teachers, four wardens and eight support staff. The arrangement is intended to provide students with academic assistance as well as residential support during their preparation.
The initiative reflects Assam Rifles' efforts to promote education and nurture young talent across the Northeast.
Through organised coaching, mentorship and academic support, the centre aims to help students overcome educational challenges and prepare for admission to leading medical and engineering institutions.
The establishment of the Dhurba Jyoti Dutta Centre of Excellence also highlights the role of institutional support in expanding access to competitive examination preparation for students from the region.
The inauguration marks another step towards creating better educational opportunities for Northeast youth and supporting their academic and professional aspirations.
