The people of Andhra Pradesh have reposed trust in the National Democratic Alliance (NDA). This is even after the passing of more than two years of NDA in power. There is no ambiguity among the public and it was crystal clear. The ‘Double Engine Sarkar (same party at Centre and State)’ slogan has percolated to the municipal level and the same was expected in Zilla Parishad Territorial Constituency (ZPTC) and Mandal Parishad Territorial Constituency elections
After more than two years of winning general elections in Andhra Pradesh in 2024, the NDA swept the elections for local bodies – municipalities and municipal corporations. Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and Janasena are part of the NDA. The strike rate of the NDA is astonishing. The main opposition party YSRCP has to eat the dust. Surprisingly the Congress party, which had once ruled the state, was nowhere in the scene.
Here is a record- the Janasena- which is part of the NDA- got a strike rate of 100- yes 100 per cent- strike rate for the second consecutive time – first in assembly elections and now in the local body elections for municipalities and municipal corporations.
Out of the total 13 Municipal Corporations in Andhra Pradesh, the TDP won 10 Corporations to its kitty followed by Janasena won two. The YSRCP was forced to compromise with only one seat. Of the total 922 divisions in these corporations, the NDA won 771 followed by YSRCP 113 and others 38. Here the strike rate by NDA is more than 95 per cent.
Coming to the municipalities, out of the total 87 corporations, the NDA won 81 – TDP 61, Jansena 16 and BJP four with YSRCP 3 and other two. In the wards, the alliance won 2,461 wards, YSRCP 416 and others 99.
The best coordination between the Centre and State in taking up development activities and implementing them without any bureaucratic delays. There is a strong relationship between Andhra Pradesh and the Centre. The State was able to secure Rs. 19,619 crore under the Centre’s Special Assistance to States for Capital Investment (SASCI) in the last two and half years under NDA rule of the total Rs. 31,000 crore in capital assistance since 2021.
