In its 100th year, Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh, RSS, founded by Dr. Hedgewar is doing wonderful work. The organisation and its people not only fought in the freedom movement, but are going beyond it, tirelessly working for upliftment of the masses of this nation and world over.

Great oaks from little acorns grow. What started as a tiny stream in a corner of Nagpur city a 100 years ago has now grown into a mighty river touching the remotest villages of the country.

Has RSS been able to realise the vision set forward by Swami Vivekananda?
Swami Vivekananda once said, "Give me 100 energetic young men and women, and I shall transform India."

The absence of patriotism in day-to-day life, the deterioration of collective national character, and the lack of discipline in social life was seen among the masses by Swamiji and later by our leaders. It was the vision of Dr. Hedgewar to set up an organisation to carry the nation to the pinnacle of glory, through organising the entire society and ensuring protection of Hindu Dharma. Bharat today is enjoying demographic dividend advantage. A method of consistent efforts to train people to live for the nation is being done by Sangh through its shakhas.

To the youth Swami Vivekananda said, “Arise, Awake and stop not till the goal is reached”. The Key Pillars of Vivekananda’s Universal Brotherhood philosophy are:

• Vedantic Oneness
• Acceptance Over Tolerance
• Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam
• Active Service

Sangh believes that national transformation can be achieved through Panch Partivartan. These Five dimensions are (1) Awareness of Self i.e. Swadeshi, (2) Civic Duty, (3) Environment, (4) Social Harmony and (5) Family Enlightenment. All five dimensions encompass the key pillars of Swamiji’s thought. "Atmano Mokshartham Jagad-hitaya Cha," which means "For one's salvation, and for the welfare of the world," was the motto given by Swamiji himself to the organisation which he started- Ramakrishna Mission.

“Be and Make”, “Stand up, be bold, be strong. Take the whole responsibility on your own shoulders and know that you are the creator of your own destiny”,” “Believe in yourself and all that you are. Know that there is something inside you that is greater than any obstacle”. It is in these lines of Swamiji we see Sangh in action. Training given in shakhas has created a band of workers who are working tirelessly. Be it drought or flood, war or peace, disease or poverty, Swayamsevak’s are at forefront in social service.

“But I shall not cease to work! I shall inspire men everywhere, until the world shall know that it is one with God”, Swami Vivekananda said. The Sangh is giving its 100 % contribution all these years. In its centenary year it continues with its mission of raising the national consciousness of the people to serve nation and strive to become Jagatguru. May their tribe grow.
