Dr. Enayetullah Abbasi alleged that Muslims in West Bengal are facing insecurity and claimed that political pressure should be created against the state government. He stated that many Muslims in West Bengal look towards Bangladesh for support and accused the newly formed government in the state of targeting Muslims through actions such as shutting down beef shops and attacks on mosques.

“I believe that if Muslims are not safe in West Bengal, then Hindus in Bangladesh will also not remain safe. Lakhs of Muslims in West Bengal look towards us, which is why political pressure must be created. In my view, the newly formed government in West Bengal is extremist and is allowing attacks on mosques and atrocities against Muslims.

I see the BJP as a radical Hindutva political party. Just as some Jews dream of a ‘Greater Israel’ extending into neighbouring countries like Egypt, Lebanon, and Syria, I believe certain Hindutva groups and the RSS in India dream of an ‘Akhand Bharat’ that includes Pakistan, Nepal, Bhutan, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka under the idea of ‘Ram Rajya.’ I do not believe such ambitions can ever truly be achieved.

After the BJP came to power in West Bengal, beef shops are allegedly being shut down, and Muslims are facing oppression. This must be stopped. I believe it is the responsibility of the Bangladesh government to raise its voice on this issue and pressure India diplomatically, including through trade relations if necessary. I also believe India should be warned that if Muslims in Bangladesh are not safe, then Hindus in Bangladesh will also face insecurity.”

He further criticized the BJP and Hindutva ideology, comparing the concept of “Akhand Bharat” with the idea of “Greater Israel,” claiming both are rooted in religious and ideological ambitions. Abbasi argued that such visions would never be fully realized.

He also called on the Bangladesh government to take a stronger stand, suggesting that diplomatic and trade pressure should be used if Muslims in West Bengal are allegedly mistreated. Additionally, he warned that if Muslims in Bangladesh are not safe, Hindus in Bangladesh would also face insecurity.

The statement has sparked discussions on escalating communal tensions between the two regions. The state of West Bengal witnessed a recent political shift, with Suvendu Adhikari from Bharatiya Janata Party taking oath as the new Chief Minister. Following the development, several Left-leaning Islamist voices and members associated with the All India Trinamool Congress have strongly reacted and expressed concern over the change in power. They have also expressed fear that Muslims in the state are being tortured in the state of West Bengal. However, the fact is that several BJP leaders and Hindu activists in West Bengal have been tortured and attacked at the hands of TMC after the party lost power in the state. A detailed report regarding the same can be read here.
