A major political controversy erupted in Sambhaji Nagar after municipal authorities carried out a bulldozer action against alleged illegal constructions linked to AIMIM corporator Mateen Patel.
The action was
conducted under heavy police security after authorities claimed portions of Patel’s house and office violated municipal construction norms. However, the demolition quickly turned into a political flashpoint because Patel had been named in connection with the controversial Nashik “Corporate Jihad” case.
Hours before the demolition, AIMIM leader Imtiyaz Jaleel visited Naregaon and addressed supporters gathered near the demolished structure. During his speech, Jaleel strongly criticised the administration’s action and vowed that the house would be rebuilt.
“There is no value of this house, we can build 50 such houses,” Jaleel said, adding that “the whole Hindustan will see” how the house would be rebuilt over the same debris left behind by the demolition drive.
He further claimed that if authorities demolished more such houses, residents and supporters would collectively rebuild them. Jaleel also alleged that Muslims in India were facing difficult circumstances and claimed that BJP-ruled states had created an “us versus them” political environment.
The AIMIM leader urged supporters to stand with Mateen Patel and said he would continue supporting him despite criticism and political pressure. He also claimed that the next time he visited the locality, he would come along with Patel himself.
Patel’s mother also addressed supporters emotionally and said she could “sacrifice 10 such houses” for her son.
The controversy surrounding the demolition has intensified because of the serious allegations linked to the Nashik “Corporate Jihad” investigation. Nida Khan, considered one of the main accused in the case, is accused of allegedly grooming a Hindu woman employed in the corporate sector and attempting to influence her through sustained religious indoctrination.
According to allegations being investigated, Nida Khan allegedly sent the woman 171 links related to Islamic teachings and encouraged her to change her name to “Hania,” wear a burqa, offer namaz, and adopt Islamic practices. Investigators are also probing allegations that she and other accused persons, including Danish and Tausif, were allegedly planning to traffic women to Malaysia.
The probe later widened after investigators examined alleged online links between some accused persons and radical networks. Authorities are also examining alleged links between Nida Khan and accused individuals named in the 2025 Red Fort blast investigation, including Dr Shaheen, whose name surfaced during the NIA probe into the alleged “white-collar terror module.”
Investigators have alleged that Mateen Patel helped Nida Khan remain hidden while police teams were searching for her. Maharashtra authorities later named Patel in the case.
Reports have also claimed that forensic examination of Patel’s mobile phone allegedly revealed objectionable material and explicit videos involving Hindu women, though officials have not publicly released complete forensic details regarding these claims.
The Sambhaji Nagar Municipal Corporation has maintained that the demolition drive was purely an administrative action against illegal constructions. Officials stated that notices had been issued regarding violations before the bulldozer action was carried out.
However, the demolition has now become part of a larger political battle between BJP and AIMIM leaders over allegations of radicalisation, communal politics, and selective victimhood narratives.
While BJP leaders have accused AIMIM of defending individuals facing serious criminal allegations, AIMIM leaders continue to allege that bulldozer action is being selectively used against Muslims and opposition voices in politically sensitive cases.
