West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari on Monday declared that his government would move decisively against “illegal infiltrators”, corruption networks and crimes against women, days after the Bharatiya Janata Party secured a sweeping mandate in the state Assembly elections. During a visit to Bhabanipur, Adhikari said the BJP government would fulfil its promises without compromise and ensure strict enforcement of law and national security.

Addressing party workers and local residents in Bhabanipur, Adhikari thanked the people for supporting the BJP in what he described as a “historic political shift” in West Bengal. He said the new government would focus on border security, administrative accountability and restoring public confidence in governance.

In one of his strongest remarks since assuming office, the Chief Minister said illegal infiltrators had first been identified through voter list scrutiny and would now face deportation proceedings.

“The BJP government will keep the country safe. Those who entered the voter lists illegally were identified and removed. Now the time has come to deport illegal infiltrators,” Adhikari said during the public interaction.

The statement comes amid the BJP’s long-standing campaign in Bengal over alleged illegal immigration and voter identity verification, particularly in border districts adjoining Bangladesh. The issue had featured prominently in the party’s election campaign.

The Chief Minister also announced a strict legal crackdown on crimes against women, saying the government had already constituted mechanisms for judicial oversight and monitoring. Referring to cases involving violence against women, Adhikari asserted that the administration would not spare anyone found guilty.

“The BJP government will legally act against atrocities committed on mothers, daughters and sisters. IPS officer Damayanti Sen and Justice Sampati Chatterjee’s committee have been assigned responsibility for this work,” he said.

Adhikari further escalated the political attack on opposition-linked figures by alleging large-scale accumulation of illegal wealth and property by several individuals. He claimed he had already submitted specific names to senior administrative authorities for investigation.

Naming several individuals, including political leaders and businessmen, Adhikari alleged that massive property holdings were accumulated through corruption and misuse of power. He warned that the BJP government would pursue legal proceedings and send “corrupt people behind bars”.

The remarks are expected to intensify political tensions in West Bengal, where the BJP’s rise to power has significantly altered the state’s political landscape. Issues such as infiltration, corruption, political violence and women’s safety are likely to remain central to the new government’s agenda in the coming months.
