The demand came after videos of the Chief Minister speaking in the Assembly surfaced on social media, raising concerns among opposition members about his conduct. In the letter Bajwa, representing the Congress Legislative Party and other opposition MLAs, referred to issues raised by MLA Sukhpal Singh Khaira regarding the Chief Minister’s behavior in the House. He also noted that the Chief Minister left the Assembly without responding to those concerns.
The Congress party has called for mandatory alcohol testing of all members present in the House, beginning with the Chief Minister. It has also demanded comprehensive dope testing of every MLA. Bajwa further requested that an independent medical team from Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh, be assigned to conduct the tests in a transparent manner.
The opposition has announced that it will boycott further proceedings of the Assembly until the Chief Minister undergoes the proposed tests and addresses the allegations.
