Indian 'Islamic scholar' Khalil-ur-Rahman Sajjad Nomani, who is also the spokesperson of the All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB), made a controversial statement on May 20, asking the Islamic community members to politically dominate the Hindu majority community in India by giving them an invitation to convert to Islam. He stated that people who call themselves Hindus are not even Hindus and never originally belonged to that community.
Maulana was speaking at a Q&A session conducted by Hujjat ul Islam Academy, Darul Uloom Waqf Deoband. He stated during the session that the invitation to accept Islam to non-Muslims should only be given after considering the political circumstances.
"Even the Prophet gave the invitation to the faith while keeping political situations in mind. In India, Dalits, Adivasis, Sikhs, and Buddhists were made Hindus even though they were not originally Hindus. Alliances should be formed with these people so that minorities can politically dominate the majority, and then the invitation to the faith can be given," he said.
This comes a couple of days after he made blatant, vague claims, saying that nobody in India was a Hindu. He criticized the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and Hindu organizations, saying that Sikhs, Buddhists, Dalits, OBCs, and Lingayats were invited to the organization and allegedly 'forcefully made Hindus.'
"RSS makes them Hindu in their Shakhas. Sikhs, Buddhists, Dalits, OBCs, and Lingayats are not Hindus. Muslims must be active in political initiatives and encourage people to join them and later accept faith," he was heard saying in a video. He also revealed that some political parties like SDPI were already working to bring Gurjars, Jats, Dalits, and OBCs into joining the Muslim front against the BJP.
Notably, Nomani is known for his controversial statements against Hindus. Earlier, he had called for the severing of social and religious ties with Muslims who were affiliated with the saffron party. He claimed that such individuals have abandoned Islam and demanded that their “hookah-paani should be stopped” (complete boycott). The Muslim followers of the BJP should change their name to ‘Ghanshyam,’ he had declared, mocking them and indicating their expulsion from the community.
He is also infamous for asking Muslims not to send their girls to schools and colleges, as it is haram (forbidden) in Islam. Additionally, he warned that parents who send their daughters to school will be sent to Hell (Jahannam). Despite wearing a hijab, he stressed that Muslim females should never be left alone, even if they are going to college.
